Nothing is more timeless than a love story, especially one as well written as those by Rosamunde Pilcher. Her novels have a large and faithful following and are so constantly successful, as are the TV event movies that are based on them.
Winter Soltice is the opener of a two-part series that focuses on the fate and love lives of a group of women in England who are linked by family lies. From one generation to another they search for happiness and overcome life's obstacles together. Elfrida tries to help out her neighbor who just lost his family, while looking after heart-broken niece Carrie and her little sister Lucy. Christmas will bring some unwanted turbulence into the lives of these ladies and their chosen gentlemen as some uninvited and unwelcome guests interfere with their happiness.
Winter Soltice's all European cast round off the perfect romantic setting. The film also marks a last appearance by the legendary two time Academy Award-winner Sir Peter Ustinov (DEATH ON THE NILE). Starring alongside are Sinéad Cusack (V FOR VENDETTA), Geraldine Chaplin (CHAPLIN), Jan Niklas (ANNE FRANK, ANASTASIA) as well as Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Jean Simmons (THE THORN BIRDS).
