(The 1924 sardine-workers' strike in Douarnenez) In this small port in Brittany, the whole population's capacity and willingness to resist poverty, pressure and violence was sorely tested. And for once, for the first time perhaps, it was women who, conscious of the exemplary nature of their action, carried the hopes of the whole town.
