The story begins on the night of a full moon in the biggest gothic Palace in Europe, the Palais des Papes d'Avignon (the Popes' Palace in Avignon). A gargoyl, hanging from one of the palace rampart walls, suddenly seems to come to life and casts a strange sphere of light at the young night watchman's feet... The morning after, the watchman dies in a road accident but the sphere has disappeared. That same night, Estelle Esperanza (Louise Monot), a 28 year-old curator's assistant at the Popes' Palace, is about to see her life change dramatically. A few days later, during a renovation led by David Périsse (Bruno Madinier) a Cyclopean wall collapses in the Cour d'Honneur (Courtyard of Honor) inside the Palace, an accident which totally changes the natural course of things. Olivier Royal, a workman on the site, saves Estelle from certain death buried under a mass of stones. Estelle then witnesses the discovery on the site of a beautiful medieval rose window which glows miraculously. Louis, Estelle's grand-father who used to be the Palace concierge, immediately realises this is just the first step in the revelation of the Avignon Prophecy which is said to predict the world's future up to the fourth millennium, and for which he has always been waiting to happen. According to Louis, the rose window marks the beginning of the ultimate lunar cycle. When this is complete, the Prophecy will be shown to the Pure Hearted One, by definition one of the Esperanza family. And who else than his grand daughter could better embody the Chosen one?
