POLES APART

80-year-old Charlotte refuses to leave the apartment that is her world to move into the luxurious old people's home her daughter has chosen for her. No one ever listens to Charlotte, who "rambles" , they say. And at her age, she can no longer go out. One morning, scaffolding goes up outside her window. Her building is to be renovated. Yatsek, a young Polish construction worker and illegal alien, is in charge of the 3-month job. At last, Charlotte has someone to talk to: Yatsek on the scaffolding, her by the window. A deep friendship is born. Yatsek gives Charlotte the understanding she doesn't get from her family. An affectionate and quirky friendship develops, but Yatsek is a little too quick to forget that he is there illegally.
