GEORGE DANDIN BY MOLIERE

George Dandin is a rich farmer who tries to move up the social ladder by marrying Angélique de Sottenville, a nobleman's daughter. He soon realizes that he has made a huge blunder and that his wife's family is simply after his wealth. He also learns from a loose-tongued valet that his wife is kindly disposed to the young fop Clitandre, who has been prowling round her. When George informs his father-in-law, Angélique and Clitandre are summoned to explain themselves. They brazenly deny everything, offering Monsieur de Sottenville yet another opportunity to humiliate George by reminding him of his humble origins and forcing him to apologize to Clitandre.
