ISLAND GIRLS

Present day, on a small island somewhere off the coast of Brittany... A handful of women are widowed when their husbands die at sea. After the initial shock, dejection and grieving, they have to start living again. Their mother-of-pearl cottage industry doesn't bring in enough for them and their children, so they put out ads for men from the mainland to crew the trawler and get the fishing cooperative back on its feet. After an epic casting session, the men arrive... only to discover that the women lied to them. By omission, at least! In their ads, they forgot to mention that their husbands died in a fishing accident on the same "Pelican" that they now expect the newcomers to crew. A mournful cloud hangs over the boat.
