THE MEDIAWAN HIT, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, IS CONQUERING THE WORLD

Paris, April 24, 2025 – MEDIAWAN event mini-series, The Count of Monte Cristo, produced by Palomar and DEMD Productions, has taken the world, securing major international deals among which PBS MASTERPIECE in the US and UKTV in the UK. This 8-episode epic, helmed by the talented two-time Palme d'Or winner Bille August, has breathed new life into this iconic IP.

The series has achieved remarkable global success, securing major international deals all over the world. PBS MASTERPIECE has acquired the U.S. rights, while European broadcasters including UKTV in the UK, TVE in Spain, RTS in Switzerland, and the Nordic PSB alliance (Public Service Broadcasters including SVT, NRK, DR, YLE, RUV) are going to bring the series to their audiences. The show will also be broadcast in Eastern European countries, including Poland with TVP, Hungary with TV2, and the Czech Republic with Ceska TV. Other major territories are under negotiation.

The Count of Monte Cristo has already begun to break viewership records with its premiere in Italy. On Rai1, the miniseries was a massive success, captivating on average nearly 6 million viewers, achieving an impressive 30.5% market share on 4+. A gain of more than 2 million viewers and a +10% share boost compared to the time slot’s usual audience, making it the most outstanding results on RAI in the past three years.

Building on its international success, the series will be showcased out of competition at the closing of Cannes Series on Tuesday, April 29th at 8 pm at the Lumière Theatre, in the presence of Bille August, Sam Claflin, and Ana Girardot.
